This is one of those hands that I have to call down, but I know I'm beat. Anyone think I should have laid this down, regardless of the outcome?

I think I save the bet on the flop. You aren't betting off an ace or a flush draw, and if one hits you can get out of the hand cheaper.

Albeit a weaker play, I would go preflop the same.
check the flop, raise the 1 bet from the button. Call his 3bet and check call it to the river. On the river I would probably check call.

Then again, you got a lot more value our of the hand then I would have.

You should check out Roy Cooke's book. I think you would like it.

Thats why I hate limit. I play alot of it because I like to play HORSE, but avoid playing the limit portion hands out of the blinds unless I have a monster. In the low level game the idiots forget what the fold button is for, and its a real crapshoot.

I love that people still believe jibberish like this. It is fundamentally false, and the fact that many people don't realize this is part of what makes poker such a wonderful game.

Many moons ago when I used to play HORSE I noticed that the first hour was always the worst...maybe because I always played the rebuys. But everyone would get crazy on the limit hands. The problem is that in limit when you have a monster starting hand you can't really push the amount that would otherwise scare most and you will get those who will limp in and most often catch. This is where notes come into play. If villain is noted for calling just about anything preflop in a limit game you would know enough to tread the waters lightly. Remember we don't know what the other person has and assume we have the better hand.

I think what you guys are describing is the fact that success at LHE requires a scalpel whereas in NLHE the preferred instrument is a baseball bat.
